The Perfect Blend for Optimal Weight Loss

The Perfect Blend for Optimal Weight Loss

I get asked constantly about how to not only get started with a workout program but also the best way to lose weight.  It’s a simple yet complex answer at the same time.  Many people want me to prescribe a magic pill but sustained weight loss takes more than a simple pill.

I’m going to share the perfect blend of what it takes to effectively lose weight and keep it off.

Tip #1:  Move your body

It goes without saying our bodies were made to move.  We were not made to be sedentary but due to lifestyle many of us sit way more during the day than our parents or grandparents did.  Get up and move your body.  If you participate in an activity you consider fun, you will more likely stick with it.  Anything you do that gets your heart rate up at least 30 minutes, 5 days a week is ideal.

Solution:  Think about trying Zumba, gardening, running, speed walking, jump rope, body pump, etc.  There’s a bunch of programs you can try.  Keep trying one until you find something you like.

Tip #2:  Drink water

Did you know that our adult bodies are made up of about 70% water?  That means, when we are dehydrated just a little bit, we start experiencing headaches, brain fog and dizziness.  Keeping your body hydrated also helps with waste elimination which helps with weight loss.  Water is also zero calories so you aren’t adding unnecessary calories to your regimen that you have to burn off later.

Solution:  Make sure you drink plenty of water a day, at least 74 oz.

Tip #3:  Go to sleep

One of the biggest mistakes I see folks make constantly is they fail to get at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep a night.  When that happens your body produces cortisol which helps your body retain weight, especially around your abdomen which isn’t optimal.  When you rest, your body rejuvenates, reinvigorates and repairs itself so proper sleep is essential.

Solution:  Record your favorite show, shut down social media and get at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep a night.

Tip #4:  Eat right

I know many of us struggle with the concept of eating properly.  Large part of that is due to the fact there are a lot of food options out there and they aren’t all healthy.  Also, reading labels can get confusing and you do not understand how much of what you should aim to eat daily.  You can never go wrong with fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grains and lean cuts of protein.  Baking, broiling and roasting and excellent food preparation options that doesn’t add unnecessary fat to the dish and these cooking methods bring out the great flavor of food.  I also know folks struggle with large portion sizes.  But there is a way to manage that.

Solution:  Replace at least one meal a day with a healthy meal replacement shake (ideally breakfast).

NEVER HEARD of these shakes, etc before – there are so many on the market. That being said, I am trying to find some good ones for my husband who wants to have protein shakes after he works out. I don’t want him eating crap, so I will definitely need to look into these!

I haven’t come across this brand before, it looks great! I drink enough water, it’s the sleep I can’t enough of. It’s not baby related, it’s puppy related!
