Who has not heard of the benefits of drinking green smoothies? Well here is our challenge for this week. Drink a green smoothie every day Monday – Friday of this week and report in on your progress. This is how this works:
Advanced challenge: Drink 3 green smoothies daily
Intermediate challenge: Drink 2 green smoothies daily
Beginner challenge: Drink 1 green smoothie daily
Now how does one prepare a green smoothie you ask? This chart is an excellent breakdown of the base liquid, add-ins and greens.
Depending on your experience and taste tolerance go as HIGH GREEN as you want. My preference is using a coconut milk or almond milk base (unsweetened), then adding fruit such as strawberries and banana and then adding organic baby spinach leaves. That is a very mild green smoothie in that you really do not taste the spinach. Don’t limit yourself – GET CREATIVE!
Now I have gotten jiggy with it and replaced the baby spinach with a few kale leaves and you can taste the stronger “green” taste but boy does it give you that boost of energy.
These smoothies are not only filling (lasting me until lunch time) they are extra nutritious. They are made from whole foods and no processed foods so it does a body good. Over time your body and taste buds will crave them if consumed on a regular basis. Check out some of their nutritious value:
- Good source of protein
- Vitam A, C, K and B
- Omega-3
- Potassium
- Folate
- Iron
- Fiber
Some physical benefits I have experienced from smoothies are stronger nails and hair, clearer skin, better memory, more energy, flatter stomach and feeling fuller longer. It just can’t be beat!
