S is for Snacks

S

The letter “S” is for snacks.  If any of you are like me, working out multiple times a week constantly leaves me hungry throughout the day. On one hand that is a good thing, gives me an inclination my metabolism is burning but on the other hand – it gets difficult to make the right choice if I do not plan properly.

Check out my quick video on the subject.

My trainer has informed me I should consume about 5 to 6 small meals a day to stay satiated, hydrated and to prevent hunger.  This means more than breakfast, lunch and dinner – this is adding 3 additional snacks in there thoughout the day.

One additional thing my trainer shared with me is that the more healthy small meals I eat through out the day, the more fat I will burn and the more inches I will lose.  HOORAY!  But it does seem counterintuitive.  You mean if we eat more we can actually lose weight?

Yes and more importantly no.  If you eat the right things YES.  If you eat the wrong things no.

What are RIGHT snacks?

  • Green smoothies
  • Almonds
  • Cut up fruit
  • Fresh fruit salad
  • Raw veggies with hummus
  • No-bake energy bars

What are WRONG snacks?

  • Chips
  • Soda
  • Processed snack cakes
  • Junk food

It isn’t that hard to figure out.  If it typically comes in a vending machine – bad.  If you can pluck it out of a tree or out of the ground or off a vine – GOOD.

What clean eating snacks do you enjoy?

I cannot do the snack thing. I have to eat only 2-3 meals a day because I like to eat bigger meals. If I ate 5-6 meals a day I would totally over eat! But everyone is different so hopefully this way of eating works for you 😉 Hard boiled eggs and 2-3 ounces of sliced turkey or chicken are some of my favorite snacks if I absolutely NEED something in between my bigger meals though!

Yes, for me eating smaller more frequent meals is the way to go otherwise I will forget to eat. Yesterday I worked out for an hour, burned 597 calories. I finished at 6:30 am and returned home and ran errands. I didn’t eat until 10 am. That is not good for me. By that time I had the shakes.

Yes they do – I love eating all of those. Our coach told us to stay away from cheese.

Yum I love snacks! Current snack rotation includes: apples with almond butter, sugar snap peas, carrots with hummus, and pear with laughing cow light cheese. Oh and chocolate covered almonds sometimes 🙂 #wowlinkup

I’ve been experimenting with adding more protein and veggies to the snacking mix, and fewer carbs. I love cream cheese but didn’t want to use bread so put it on cucumbers. I think I’m a fan!

Love vlog! I love hearing a person’s voice and seeing them. Good subject too because sometimes people think of snacks as chips, candy… all the bad stuff.

    Hi,
I just hopped by from #wowlinkup! I agree with your list of healthy snacks. No junk food snacks for me! I only snack on fruit, nuts, smoothies, tea, juices, salads. You are on the right path! I have been thinking about getting a trainer to improve my workouts and results. How is that working for you? Good luck with your training efforts!

Healthy snacks are the best for one’s healthy, of course. My favorite snack is one that fills me up, is apple slices and 2 tablespoons of peanut butter.

I love snacking on fruit and veggies, but I don’t always plan ahead properly, which means I go hungry. Bad me!
