Aerial yoga, fitness video games, and lemon and cayenne pepper cleanses—all fitness trends that suddenly took the world by storm and then lost popularity as quickly as they skyrocketed into the spotlight. Fitness trends come and go, and some are effective, but most produce more hype than they do results.
One of the newest trends in fitness is wearable fitness tracking devices. At Modernize, we think a healthy lifestyle should be simple and maintainable—which is why we encourage homeowners to create in-home workout rooms and why we think the fitness tracking device is one trend that is here to stay.
There are many benefits to investing in a fitness tracking device and making it part of your daily routine. If you are looking to take your health and wellness to the next level, consider these 4 reasons for adding a fitness tracker to your daily routine.
Set Goals and Adjust Them to Your Lifestyle
Many fitness tracking devices come with preset goals, but these goals can be easily adjusted to your lifestyle. This is one of the greatest perks of using a personal fitness device—the creators of these devices understand there is no one-size-fit-all approach to fitness. If you are already living an active lifestyle, 10,000 steps each day is probably easily achievable, but these trackers allow you to create more challenging goals, allowing you to see results faster than ever before.
Bring Mindfulness Into Your Everyday
For many who are trying to lose weight or reach their next fitness goal, the small decisions they make when they are distracted by everyday life become the biggest challenges. If you have grown accustomed to making a trip to vending machine halfway through your day, or spending the evening watching Netflix instead of hitting the gym, these habits can be hard to break if you don’t have something reminding you constantly.
A wearable fitness tracker brings mindfulness into the monotonous and routine moments of your every day by tracking each and every calorie, updating you on your progress on daily goals, and keeping you alert to the status of your health. These new habits, that are seemingly small and insignificant, can make all the difference in your journey to health.
Use Online Accountability to Skyrocket Your Progress
Time and time again, research has found that accountability is incredibly beneficial in achieving your fitness goals. Not everyone has the opportunity to meet up with an exercise partner or a coach a few times a week, and this is where the fitness tracking device can be invaluable. Most of these devices also have an online interface connected to your account. By using your account to build relationships with users with similar goals, you can share fitness tips, congratulate each other on goals achieved, and ask for support when you are struggling to stay motivated.
Keep a Close Eye on Your Progress
One reason some may give up on their fitness goals is that they simply don’t feel they are making any progress. The truth is, permanently changing your body and your health is a slow process and the results may be hard to see unless you are keeping a close eye on small changes. Using a fitness tracking device allows you to closely watch all of these small changes, allowing to input measurements, weight, and other statistics important to your health.
Creating new habits and maintaining them for the long term is not easy, and may seem overwhelming to those who are just beginning their journey to a healthier lifestyle. A fitness tracking device simplifies living a healthy life by focusing on the day-to-day decisions that add up to big results.

I really don’t think my fitness tracker helps me much any more, but I am still addicted to it! I just upgraded to the Garmin Vivosmart HR.

For years I was using the Bodybugg armband by BodyMedia but it was discontinued last month. I know I need to use another fitness tracker but I just can’t decide on which one because there are so many options!

I just got my very first Fitbit this weekend and I’m so excited about it! I have no idea how many steps I usually take in a day so I’m hoping to learn a lot about my habits and what I’m really doing when I’m not running.

I have thought about getting one for a couple years. I am an active person as it is and wondered if I would like it or not. It would be a splurge for me. I would like a Garmin. Do you know if the Everlast works well for the price?

You know I’m a huge Fitbit Fan … and it’s really fun when the entire family has the same device and you can compare (and compete). My 12-year old is KILLING me in steps!
