G is for Goals

G

I will admit, I am not one to set too many goals when it comes to fitness.  A friend once told me to sign up for a race therefore I would have a goal to strive for to help with my long distance run training.  It didn’t help – signing up for a half marathon did not actually make me train more or harder than I normally would.

Now interesting way to start this post right since it IS about setting goals.  But I will say my goal-setting priorities are on other things.  I enjoy running and running distances but it is not a passion of mine and quite honestly – I don’t feel as if I need to prove it to myself to run oodles of miles.

My goals have more to do with my physique.  My goal is to grow more pronounced shoulders (to help my bra straps to stay up).  I want more defined arms – for those sleeveless dresses and ease of picking up heavy grocery bags without assistance.  I want at least 2 inches off of my waist but I will settle for one now since that is part of April’s challenge.

My point is – find what is important to YOU when it comes to your physical health and set goals around that to help you keep your eyes on the prize.  I will tell you, the road is going to be long, windy and tough.  It is a road not travelled by many because some won’t want to do what it takes.

Remember, the road to greatness is to be willing to do what others won’t.  So maybe G is also for Greatness.  I believe to achieve greatness you must have goals but you will only commit to goals that are priority to you.  Find your goals, and find your greatness.

What are your fitness or running goals?  Why did you set those as your goals?

My goals are mostly centered around being healthy more than anything. Ever since I had my thyroid removed, it has been a rollercoaster. But there is also the physique part and wanting to look good. 🙂

Maria – that’s good you have sound goals around good health. Gives you an area to focus.

When it comes to running my goals are to just KEEP going. I sometimes forget why I love to run, and keeping goals keeps me moving!

That is very good. Brittany do you find you enter races to have a goal to strive towards?

I think my goal is pretty simple and that is just to be more consistent. I will start something and just stop and I hate myself for doing that. I guess it is a change in my mindset to just be more consistent. So if it means waking up and working out 5/7 days, then I just need to stick to it and stop making up excuses 🙁
