Featured Fitale Sharon King Brown

FFFC:  Please introduce yourself to our readers (i.e. your name, occupation, hobbies, etc.).

SKB:  My name is Sharon King Brown; I have been married for 19 yrs. and am the mother of 4. I work in the Fugitive Division of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. I love to read crime dramas and plan on writing a book someday. And of course it will be about a female detective, lol…and of course having a healthy lifestyle and try to motivate others to do the same.

FFFC:  What sparked your weight-loss transformation journey?

SKB:  I was just tired of being fat. I didn’t feel good about myself. I just wanted a change.

FFFC:  What was your beginning and current weight or measurements?

SKB:  When I started, I was 262 lbs. My lowest weight since my journey was 192.now my weight is fluctuating between 197 & 203.I started out in a 3X blouse and 24/26 pants. Today, I wear an L blouse and 12 pants.

FFFC:  How long did it take for your weight-loss transformation from beginning to end?

SKB:  I started in Oct 2009 and by Dec of 2009, I had lost 48 lbs. After that I had a major plateau in 2010 but I have been maintaining. I haven’t gained too much back.

FFFC:  What physical activities did you participate in during your journey?

SKB:  When I started I couldn’t even walk a half of mile without getting tired. I got up to doing 6 miles throughout the day. And I spent hours of hours on my recumbent exercise bike, while listening to music and watching my favorite TV shows.
FFFC:  How did your eating habits change?

SKB:  When I started, I cut out fried foods, sugar and ate vegetables and salads like crazy, stopped drinking sodas and drunk a lot of water.
FFFC:  What is your favorite fitness activity?

SKB:  Walking and riding my exercise bike.

FFFC:  What do you do now to maintain your physique?

SKB:  Wow, I did a variety of things. I go to the gym, workout at home. And have plenty of Facebook friends to help me stay motivated. And I keep my before pictured to constantly remain me that I can never go back. And inspiring others helps me to maintain and keep myself accountable.

FFFC:  How did you develop and sustain the willpower to avoid the bad stuff (i.e. junk food, bad drinks, lack of activity, etc.)?

SKB:  Looking at my before pics, I never want to go back.

FFFC:  What advice do you have for someone starting out on their weight-loss journey but unsure of how to begin?

SKB:  My advice is for them to cut back on eating and do some form of physical activity and the number one thing is to make up their mind and stick to it!! Often people say they need a fitness partner.  When your mind is made up, all you need is you to get it together. Plenty of times no one wanted to walk with me…so I started walking by myself. If I waited around on other people, I would have failed. Depend mostly on yourself to do this.

FFFC:  What do you think is the biggest misconception about this journey?

SKB:  Strength training. If I started doing strength training while I was doing all the cardio, I will be at my goal weight and my goal size.  Woman think by lifting the weights, they will buck up like a man..that is simply not the case.  We can be really toned and sexy if we incorporate strength training in our workout routines.

FFFC:  How can readers learn more about your transformation and journey online (i.e. Facebook, tumblr, twitter, etc.)?

SKB:  I am on Facebook under Sharon King Brown and various groups including Femme Fitale and you can find me on Twitter @foxxyshyd.

FFFC:  Any last words?

SKB:  Do this for you and no one else.  Don’t let anyone deter you from your goals you have set for you.  In actuality some people may want you to fail.  You might lose friends and family members because of your success.  Just be mindful of what you are doing it for.  And I could not have done this without the Lord, first and foremost.
