Who doesn’t remember this commercial?
The wonderful world of CHIA! Chia seeds that is. I tried it for the first time in my green smoothie and can you say “IN LOVE”? OMG, the flavor and texture really hit the spot in my green smoothie this morning. I already added almond milk and a splash of OJ as the base. Then added 2 handfuls of fresh baby spinach and frozen fruit (pineapple, strawberry, peach and mango) and topped it off with 1/2 of a banana. Threw in a TB of chia seeds and IT WAS ON!
More so than the taste, who knew those little seeds held such secrets to great nutrition? Oh I skipped what it taste like. A little nutty flavor that just enhanced the flavor of the green smoothie. Not too sweet, not too earthy tasting. It was just right!
I bought mine at Trader Joe’s at the advice from another Fitale and this is one of the best smoothie advice I have ever received. I can’t believe I went this long before trying it. Now I am a believer and TRUE FAN!
Let me just list some of the nutritional benefits of Chia Seeds:
- 6 grams of fiber
- 3 grams of protein
- 2.9 grams of Omega-3 fatty acids
And all of that in just 1 tablespoon! No wonder this came in a 5.3 oz bag! According to the packaging, Chia is often considered the richest plant-based source of dietary fiber, protein and Omega-3’s. I’m SOLD!
