FFFC: Please introduce yourself to our readers (i.e. your name, occupation, hobbies, etc.)
VS: Juvenile Court Office Manager
FFFC: What sparked your weight-loss transformation journey?
VS: I gained about 60 pounds within the first three months of marriage. For many years, I walked a couple of miles a day and for six years I faithfully went to group fitness classes at a gym. My eating and exercise habits never quite matched. An incredibly inspiring Zumba instructor, Amy Baker, made the difference that finally helped me see the results I had been looking for. She shares her story freely and makes me believe that if she can do it, so can I.
FFFC: What was your beginning and current weight or measurements?
VS: My highest weight, about 12 years ago, was 262. My weight at the beginning of this chapter of my journey was 215 and my current weight is 179.
FFFC: How long did it take for your weight-loss transformation from beginning to end?
VS: June 2012 to January 2013 – not done yet. J
FFFC: What physical activities did you participate in during your journey?
VS: Lots & lots of Zumba! It’s my passion. I love every minute of it.
FFFC: How did your eating habits change?
VS: In August I realized that sugar is an appetite trigger for me, so I cut it out. I stay away from processed foods, and eat clean/whole/real foods. Life without sugar is so much easier for me! I also ate entirely too much cheese, so I no longer buy cheese and without it in the house, I feel much better.
FFFC: What do you typically eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?
VS: Plain Cheerios, unsweetened Almond Milk, banana, honey or steel-cut oats. Whole wheat English muffins with natural peanut butter, Daisy brand 4% cottage cheese, love Cuties, apples, salads, beef, chicken, fish, vegetables.
FFFC: What is your favorite fitness activity?
VS: I do 11 Zumba classes, in 5 days each week.
FFFC: How did you develop and sustain the willpower to avoid the bad stuff (i.e. junk food, bad drinks, lack of activity, etc.)?
VS: Cutting out the sugar turned off my appetite switch and will power has automatically increased. For me, there is no moderation on this one. If I have it, I’ll be hungry. If I don’t, when I do get hungry, it’s not an emergency.
FFFC: What advice do you have for someone starting out on their weight-loss journey but unsure of how to begin?
VS: Find your passion. Be inspired. Be reliable to yourself. Set goals and stick to them. Love every minute of it. And when progress starts, don’t think about how far you have to go. Focus on where you’ve come from. That is the measure of progress.
FFFC: What do you think is the biggest misconception about this journey?
VS: It doesn’t have to be hard. If you’re certain it’s going to be hard and a struggle, it’s easy to lose sight of the hope. Time is going to pass anyway, so might as well make the best use of it.
FFFC: How can readers learn more about your transformation and journey online (i.e. Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, etc.)?
VS: Facebook.

Veronica leaves daily uplifting messages on FB, often they hit home for me and remind me even if a Zumba class is missed or a bad day has come my way… there is still sunshine out there, you simply have to breathe and open your eyes 🙂 Thanks Veronica!!
