Better understand why you can’t lose weight and strategies to help fix it.
Do you know that feeling of utter despair that overwhelms you when you stand on your scales and see that the digits are the same they were last week? Or, heaven forbid, even bigger?
My thoughts when that happened devolved into the self-depreciating spiral of ‘What is wrong with me?’ and ‘But I worked so hard!’ and ‘Why do I always fail in everything?’ and ‘Why can’t I do anything right?’
If you’re like me, you know that at the bottom of that lies only depression and zone of zero self-esteem, and neither is conductive to losing weight.
Are you spiraling like that now?
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with you!
But there is definitely something wrong with your weight loss program and we’ll fix it right now.
The first thing we’re gonna do is finding out why exactly you aren’t losing weight now.
Let me reiterate, it’s not because you can’t do it. In most cases, it’s because one of the following reasons:
You aren’t exercising regularly and actively enough (are you one of the moms who is too busy to work out?)
You are eating too close to bedtime (a study says that this interferes with insulin production and not only makes you gain weight but also increases the risk of diabetes)
You go on stress-induced eating binges
You have a naturally slow metabolism (you can work around this one, so don’t despair!)
You aren’t getting enough sleep
You’ve reached a plateau in your weight loss program
You’ve got some thyroid problems (this, technically, means that something is indeed wrong with you, but it’s totally not your fault and requires a doctor’s intervention)
You are in generally poor health (same as above)
So, excluding genuine health problems that require medical treatment, what is the reason you aren’t losing weight?
Let me be honest, mine was ‘all of the above’ and with a big serving of having no motivation because I had no faith in myself. If you are in the same place or somewhere near it, my only advice is to persevere. Start working on yourself even if you don’t believe you can succeed.
Push yourself and keep pushing until you see results. Those would be the best motivator you can get.
How to Lose Weight Without Upturning Your Life
I’ve seen many weight loss programs in my life and what I hate about them is that the majority of those plans require you to completely change your lifestyle. Of course, things like going to a gym or jogging for an hour every morning, or switching to an organic vegan diet, look good on paper.
But how many of us with budgets, jobs and commitments are able to make such changes?
Well, the good news is that you don’t have to go to these lengths to lose weight. The secret to effective weight loss is sticking to a reasonably healthy diet (and if you have kids you should be doing that already) and doing enough exercise to burn sufficient calories every day.
And if you really want to see results fast, you can try some truly efficient diet, like the keto diet plan.
Sounds easy, right?
Yet it’s definitely not easy because exercising as a busy mom is neigh impossible. And no, running after your hellions and cleaning don’t count. They burn the calories, sure, but nowhere near enough.
Chores also don’t exercise the right muscle groups to give you a shapely stunning figure. So, forget about all those platitudes about housework being it best exercise. It isn’t.
However, your home can be the best gym if you take the time and effort to set it up right. A treadmill, dumbbells, and an abs roller wheel are what I have at home. And let me assure you, using a good exercise workout plan as well as those tools I managed to achieve all my weight goals.
I won’t lie, it’s hard. You also need to find a way to free up your schedule to get 250 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous exercise in a week. This is where having a gym at home comes in handy.
But if you do put in the work at this rate, I guarantee you’ll get results.
Now, are you working out like the hounds of Hell are after you but those merciless digits on the scales are still stuck?
Well, either you need to take a closer look at your diet or visit that doctor after all. Do the latter just in case as weight problems without cause might be a symptom of some serious trouble.
But speaking of diet, how many high-fat foods do you consume? How much sugar and carbs do you eat? Do you eat any processed foods?
In order to boost your weight loss program you should eliminate all processed foods from your diet and cut down on sugar and fats. Switch to poultry instead of red meat. Choose fruit over cookies and cakes for dessert.
Most importantly, cut down your calories to a healthy minimum to lose weight. Use a calorie calculator to determine how much you need to eat in a day in order to stay healthy.
And now, finally, the biggest question.
Be honest, are you really sticking to that weight loss plan you have or are you letting yourself slack off with a lazy hour on the couch or a slice of cake for dessert?
You know the answer you need to start losing weight.
