Starvation Diet

A starvation diet is where you don’t consume the required calories and nutrients your body needs on a day to day basis.  Let’s call them out.

The fad starvation diets that are popular now include the Master Cleanse, the Ultra Extreme Calorie Restriction Diet, and the Clear Liquid Diet.

Among other health concerns, each of these so-called nutrition plans can lead to malnutrition.  Malnutrition can cause emotional swings in the near term and liver and heart issues in the long term.

But let’s be honest, diets suck. Here is a general rule of thumb to help you know if the food you have on the plate in front of you will contribute to your weight gain or weight loss.

The more humans have monkeyed around with your food, the worse it is for your body. By that statement I mean, is your food processed?

Does it contain ingredients on the label you can’t read easily? Is the expiration date on the package past the next scheduled Olympics?

If so, it probably isn’t engineered to provide the ultimate nutrients for your body.

To lose weight, and keep it off, don’t overthink it.  A balanced diet of fresh foods containing healthy fats, lean protein and complex carbs, mixed with a little exercise will do the trick every time.

Don’t let your diet kill you, just be smart about it.

    I hear the word “diet” and cringe, and couldn’t agree more with this post! Most “diets” I see, look more like malnutrition plans, cue Women’s Health Magazine 1,500 calorie flat belly diet plan. Makes me sick! Eat food not numbers!

    Diets don’t work. Eating healthy on a regular basis and exercising often works! It also makes you a lot happier 🙂

    I haven’t dieted in years. “We” all know this to be true now we need to convince the rest everyone else. Also teach them there is no quick fix.

    I really like the conclusion of this post! My husband and I don’t follow any specific diets or eating plans, but we do eat primarily fresh foods that I make from scratch at home, and we feel great on a “diet” like that!

    I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard people around me (mostly women) talk about going on this diet or that diet. And I’ve fallen victim to it too many times in my life. Ironically, the only time I’ve even had successful long-term weight loss is when I decided to really fix the way I eat and get seriously active. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend!
