How To Get #MOTOvated To Run Faster

How to get motovated to run faster

If you are interested in improving your run or race time then this post is for you.  I’m about to share the methods and tools one can use to assist in getting #MOTOVATED to pick up the pace.  There’s nothing better than running a 5K, 10K, half marathon or further and crossing the finish line with a personal best.  It’s a great feeling and who doesn’t love seeing their name on the leaderboard as the leader in gender and age category?  So if you have goals to run faster then I recommend the following:

  1. Sprints – sprints are your friend.  They are short bursts of high energy running that when done as part of your regular training program will help improve your overall running pace.
  2. Lift weights – this may not seem intuitive but building strong muscles will allow you to push off faster and with more power which will ultimately result in faster run times.
  3. Start jumping – plyometrics is another way to build strong muscles as well as power. Some great plyo exercises include box jumps, jump squats, jump lunges, and skaters.  These not only help you develop an explosive push off, they are great forms of cardio and gets the heart rate up.
  4. Listen to fast music – I have found that when my powersong starts playing during my run I pick up the pace. Fill your playlist with some amazing powersongs that are at least 180 beats per minute and find yourself picking up the pace and getting even better times.
  5. Track yourself – I found the only way to know if you are getting or faster is to track yourself. A perfect tool for this is the Moto 360 Sport by Motorola.  There are many reasons why this has been the best way for me to train to increase speed and let me share them with you.

Moto 360 Sport

The Moto 360 Sport watch allows one to easily track their running sessions by tracking:

  • Speed,
  • Lap time,
  • Distance,
  • Pace,
  • Heart rate, and
  • Duration

Moto 360 Sport

Check out this quick video which highlights why it’s an excellent tool for training runs and fitness.

The Moto 360 Sport integrates with your mobile phone which means one doesn’t necessarily need their phone to help track their runs with a running app.  Everything you need is on your Moto 360 Sport including alerts you receive on your phone.  So while you are on your speed training run with your Moto 360 Sport you still receive call alerts, reminders, and can play your running music.  Isn’t that cool?  One less thing to carry while hitting the pavement.

The built in GPS works with the Moto Body app to measure running performance and with 4 GB of storage you can play your powersongs until your heart’s content.  And speaking of hearts, with the Moto Body app you can also see how much time your heart rate remained in different heart rate zones.

The silicone watch band is extremely comfortable and doesn’t absorb sweat and because I tend to complete my speed training when it’s dark, the face of the watch has a unique Motorola AnyLight display and lets me easily see my stats in the dark or in sunlight.

You can pick up your own Moto 360 Sport at the following retail locations:

I stay #Moto-vated because I want to be healthy. I always make sure that I wear a proper running gear on winter/cold months. A little warm-ups makes a difference.

I need to keep up with my running regimen during winter. I need to lose at least 10lbs and thats what keeps me #MOTOvated. I did not run last winter and I gained some weight which I am trying to lose.

The weather is a factor in how I keep up with my routine! I guess you could say I am not as motivated to get out when it’s pouring rain and windy!

    Great tips!!

Last year I had the goal of improving my race times. I joined a weekly track workout group, DC Luna Chix and my speeds have drastically improved. I PRD in every distance last year from 5k-13.1!

    That watch looks amazing!!

The most difficult thing is to get started. Then you can do it every day without hussle. Each day you know that you are working on yourself. It is a pleasure.

It’s hard to stay motivated, but when I don’t want to run outside, I take my runs inside instead. You can still get a run in, even on a treadmill!
