Friday Five: Five Fitness Truths

Five Fitness Truths

Hi everybody.  Checking in with my Five Friday topic “Five Fitness Truths”.  This topic is perfect as I have a solid 5 to share for guaranteed results.

Before I share my solid truths let me shout out the wonderful hostesses for this weekly link up.  This link up is sponsored by Courtney from Eat Pray Run, DC, Cynthia from You Signed Up For What? and Mar from Mar on the Run!  Their fitness and running blogs are awesome so make sure you head on over and check them out.

Here are my top 5 fitness truths:

  1. Drink water and stay hydrated.  While it is possible, yet rare, to drink too much water – drink water when you first wake up to get the body organs flushed and operating after a night’s sleep.  I drink at least 3, 8 oz cups of water at room temperature EACH and every morning when I wake up, 7 days a week.
  2. To burn fat throughout the day, incorporate weights into your workout plan.  Guaranteed lifting will shape your body better than an abundance of cardio.
  3. Since I’m on the topic of cardio – get it in.  It is a quick way to burn fat especially the runs. It is a great way to sculpt with the sprints.  Don’t be afraid of the sprints.
  4. Get at least 7 to 8 hours of rest.  I know I know, Scandal is on television or ratchet television is tempting but we MUST get in enough sleep in order to perform at our optimal best.
  5. The body achieves what the mind believes.  If you don’t think you can, you won’t try and your body won’t change.  If you mentally push through – you will eventually get stronger and faster and do more than ever believed.

These my friends are true fitness truths to live by.  Keep it simple and basic and get the results.  Consistency is KING or in this case QUEEN.  Perform your workouts and runs REGULARLY and watch the fat eventually melt away and the abs and sculpted muscles take form.

Totally agree especially with the importance of weight lifting as well. I need to work on my sleep!

Scandal isn’t on any more (right now) 🙁

I agree with all your truths … sleep isn’t always up to the individual (although there is a lot you can do to help the process). Last night was bad for me, but the night before was wonderful! I’m not sure what I did differently. I do try to get to bed early so hopefully I can get in my hours of sleep. I ♥ sleep 🙂

Such good tips! I always really struggle with the sleep thing. Not because of Scandal (haha I really need to watch that show…everyone loves it so much!), but I just have general insomnia most of the time. Epsom salt baths help, but it’s a work in progress for sure!

Great list of tips! I would have to add something about not being perfect to my list. Miss a workout? Eat crap all day? Get over it and move on!

Great tips! I’m really bad at hydrating throughout the day but it’s something I’m trying to work on. I saw someone with a water bottle that had a reservoir for fruit and I might try something like that.

I agree!! I also believe a “truth” is you can fit in exercise in the weirdest/oddest of times — don’t feel like it has to be an HOUR AT THE GYM. Even parking farther out at the grocery store or the stairs vs elevator at work can make a difference.

Oh yes Lori – the mind is what makes all of the magic happen. If your mind isn’t where it needs to be you won’t be able to achieve the fitness goals set forth. Thanks for stopping by.

You know – I am realizing too many of us are not getting enough sleep and it could be the reason we feel bad, overeat, gain weight and not as energetic as we could be. Thanks for stopping by Laina.

I’m terrible with sleep. I haven’t slept well since my kids were born. I just can’t turn my brain off. And you are right with #6. The first step to achieving anything is believing you are capable!

I know what you mean Michele – turning the brain off is a practice and I need to practice it more. Do you know when I go on vacay it takes me about 2 days to completely get into vacation mode? Because the brain is on 20 with everything going on in my DTD.
