Featured Fitale – Eve Guzman

Please introduce yourself to our readers (i.e. your name, occupation, hobbies, etc.).

My name is Eve Guzman also known as Eve Fit Chick. I am an online nutritionist, personal trainer and fitness coach. I am also a Half Their Size Spokesperson and blogger for PEOPLE Magazine.

What sparked your weight-loss transformation journey?

I had been overweight my entire life as an adolescent and young adult.  I got to the point that I wore a size 24 pants and got to the point that I had only owned two pairs of jeans that I would rotate and wash to wear.  That was the turning point for me.

What was your beginning and current weight or measurements?
Beginning weight: 5’1, 277 lbs size 24
Chest: 44.5 inches
Waist: 45 inches
Hips: 48 inches
Thighs: 30 inches
Current weight 5’1, 127 lbs size 2
Chest: 33 inches
Waist: 28 inches
Hips: 34 inches
Thighs: 22 inches
Lowest stage weight: 119 lbs
How long did it take for your weight-loss transformation from beginning to end?
About two years. It took 16 months to lose the first 120 lbs. Then I got pregnant, gained an additional 40 lbs, lost that weight again and then eventually lost another 38 lbs bringing my total loss to 158 lbs.

Which physical activities did you participate in during your journey?
In the beginning I mostly did cardio because I was afraid to workout in front of other people and lift weights. I started with a Taebo tape and a jump rope until I got a gym membership.
How did your eating habits change?
I made portions smaller at first and then started eating clean foods swapping out the junk with healthy choices. Then I learned about macros which helped to drastically change my body composition
What do you typically eat for breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner?
Breakfast: omelets, protein shakes, breakfast sandwiches and protein pancakes
Lunch: stir fry, salads, wraps, quinoa bowls and zucchini lasagna
Dinner: home-made macro friendly pizzas, healthy nachos, chicken fajitas, cabbage casserole
Snacks: Halo top ice cream, protein buff cakes, protein donuts, pretzels, baked chips, popcorn and dove chocolate
What is your favorite fitness activity?
Leg day
What do you do now to maintain your physique?
I lift 4-5 days per week and do 2 or 3×15-20 minute cardio sessions per week in my off season
How did you develop and sustain the willpower to avoid the bad stuff (i.e. junk food, bad drinks, lack of activity, etc.)?
My entire life changed when I lost half my body weight. New body, new mind, new confidence and those things became my motivation. I don’t want to ever go back to being 277 lbs. That is motivation enough for me. Plus, inspiring others keeps me focused. My clients and audience look up to me for support and encouragement.
What advice do you have for someone looking to get started with their fitness journey but not sure where to begin?
Stat with nutrition. People think to do cardio first. The battle is 80% nutrition and 20% fitness. Start replacing not so good foods with healthier ones and track what you eat. You’d be surprised with what you are consuming.
What do you think is the biggest misconception about this journey?
They see someone else’s journey and assume they will lose 20 or 30 lbs in the first month. They try, get disappointed and quit. My rate of loss was a consistent 1.8 lbs per week. Nothing crazy, just steady consistent weight loss. Your journey will be unique to you and you should focus on what works best for you.
Do you have any fitness inspirations? Who are they?
