I am more than excited. I finally purchased my first Polar HRM to monitor my heart rate while working out. YIPPEE for me! This may not seem like such a big deal but it IS because I have had trouble in the past finding a dependable yet simple HRM to use during my workouts. Quite honestly – the only time I used it was when I was running. Now that boot camp and personal training sessions are taking over my life I need a way to monitor my heart rate and total calories burned to better track my progress.
I purchased a Polar FT4 upon the recommendation of my boot camp sister Frances. I went into Best Buy to purchase it and while perusing the display saw there were 2 versions side by side, FT4 and FT7. I preferred the color of the FT7 but for $20 more could not figure out why the cost differential. I took it up to the cashier and asked her the difference and she ended up having to Google it. Basically the difference was minor and not worth more money to me because remember I wanted to keep it simple (KISS) so I went with the FT4. Considering I took 20 minutes to finalize my purchase decision means I have come a long way. I used to take weeks to determine which HRMs to purchase and with this – I just went for it. I realized I do not need all of the bells and whistles if the thing doesn’t work or stops working effectively within a month which is what happened with my former watch (that shall remain nameless but if you have been tracking this blog you know which brand I am referencing). Some of the basic features with this HRM are:
- No cross transmission with other HRMs in the area
- Tracks and displays calories burned
- Target zone guides to fitness improving zone
The older I get the simpler I prefer life to be and this watch is just that! I set it up with my demographic information and that was done in less than 5 minutes! Reading the instructions, to start training all I have to do is wet the electrodes on the chest strap, attach the connector, put on the watch and press OK – training and tracking STARTED!
You can’t tell me nothing right about now! I will be using this for the first time tomorrow during boot camp and will post results here and a review.
