Develop your core and improve stability with this stability ball workout you can easily perform at home.
What is a stability ball?
A stability ball, also sometimes referenced as a swiss ball, is an exercise tool that is literally a ball. It’s made of soft elastic with a diameter of 35 to 85 centimeters and filled with air.
It’s used to help improve stability and balance. It also adds additional dimensions to your workout which requires you to engage your core more to stay steady and sturdy.
How to determine the right size ball?
Stability balls come in various sizes and colors. You want to purchase one that is the right size for your height. You don’t want it too short or too large making exercising with proper form more difficult.
Most boxes provide detail of the size to get based on your height. The following table is a recommendation and assumes the body weight is proportionate to height.
Exercise ball diameter | Person’s height |
---|---|
45 cm | 5′ and under |
55 cm | 5’1″– 5’8″ |
65 cm | 5’9″– 6’2″ |
75 cm | 6’3″– 6’7″ |
85 cm | 6’8″ and taller |
