Process of Elimination

I’m not going to front – I have never had a known problem with constipation except for the birth of my son 5 years ago.  At that time the hospital had to provide me a stool softener to get things moving and even then it didn’t work that well.  I drank Smooth Move Tea and e’erthang still no success.  At my 6 week appointment….doctor had to work with me.

That was the ONLY moment in time I experienced any issues with constipation and irregular bowel movements.  What I do recall are friends in high school complaining of uncomfortable bloated stomachs, gas and not being able to poop in the past 3 days.  If you are reading this, and you know who you are, I didn’t call you out by name.  🙂

I never understood it.  As long as I could remember, except for post-birth of my son, I had regular movements 3 times a day.  I attributed it to being healthy and somewhat eating right.  I was like this in high school too working at McD’s eating that food on a daily basis – so go figure!  While I attribute this somewhat to good genes (I guess) I also learned of a method that REALLY helped.  I mean some may consider it so simple it is profound!

I read an article in Essence Magazine one day and it stated that laxatives were really unhealthy for the intestines and the body and really what folks needed to do was “take their time” on the pot.  They offered up a method of going to the bathroom and even if you feel like you just have to urinate, just sit on the pot for a few minutes (about 2) and wait.  Eventually your body will respond with a bowel movement.

I found this tid bit of information extremely profound and began that practice and IT WORKS!  I think some people think that if they do not have an immediate urge to do a #2, they get up and go on with their business even if it is day 2 of no movements at all.  But if folks have a little patience, and let nature take its course, I think people would find their body is ready and prepared to eliminate excess waste.

It’s a process of elimination….endure the process and let your body eliminate.  Your body will thank you and you will be better for it!

I used to get soo anxious anytime I didn’t produce a movement. I would get so worked up causing days to pass without one. I have finally calmed down about this and regularly pass the food!
