Pre-Workout Snack Experiment Day 1

If you read my article yesterday about whether “To Eat or Not To Eat – That is the Question” before a workout, I stated I would do an experiment on myself and start eating a light snack before my workouts.  Today was Day 1 of this experiment which consisted of cottage cheese and sliced pineapples.

The snack tasted very good and I ate it about 30 minutes before my weight training session with my personal trainer.  In the middle of some burpees I had to take a little break because my stomach started feeling a wee bit queasy.  Once I gathered myself I was able to finish.  I didn’t experience the normal stomach growl in the middle of the workout like I usually do and I even felt more powerful on some of the weight-training exercises.  Perhaps it was just a mind game for me.  Not sure because today IS Day 1.  I also noticed I wasn’t STARVED afterwards like I normally am.

That meant I was able to come home and get ready for work without trying to rush and cook eggs because I was ravenous.  I’ll continue this experiment for another 2 weeks so come back and check out my results.  I just may become a convert.

Have you changed anything about your workout routine lately?

I’ve tried eating something like an apple before working out and had the nauseous feeling too. So I opted to just wait until I get to work to eat.

thanks for sharing your experiment. I feel it is better for most people to eat some protein before a work out or fruit. Visiting from WOW link up.

What time do you usually workout with your trainer? It looks like a good pre workout meal not too heavy or too light.

I recently went to a seminar about nutrition and they talked about the importance of pre and post workout snacks. Yours would fit the bill of a recommended protein/carb mix 🙂 I personally have a lot of trouble with the pre workout snacks for running, but find them helpful for other activities. For running long distances I often eat some GU beforehand and it helps a lot because I’m able to get some pre-workout energy, but without the bulk of other snacks.

The pineapples did not work but the strawberries were a much better choice. Delish!!!

A proper workout is best partnered with supplements to maximize the results.
