Meet Kayla Itsines who is a co-founder of the SWEAT app and author of the groundbreaking eBook Bikini Body Guide. Learn how she got started helping millions worldwide.
FFFC: Please introduce yourself to our readers.
K: Hi, my name is Kayla and I am a twenty three year old personal trainer from Australia. I specialize in training women & helping them achieve their goals whether they are appearance, health or confidence based.
I love summer, the beach and travelling with my partner, Tobi, and hope to continue to grow as a person and be able to bring more information to women around the world.
My fitness site can be found here – www.kaylaitsines.com.au.
FFFC: How did you get started in fitness and working out?
K: I have always been healthy and fit. Whether it was basketball, other sport of just working out I am far too impatient to not do something with my time. Now my mission is what inspires me.
I have a dream to end confusion within the health and fitness industry.
Fads and scams in this industry have created so much distrust and insecurity around weight-loss programs. I want all people to understand their body, have a place to learn about health and fitness and in turn feel confident & happy.
FFFC: Why did you make fitness your career choice? How?
K: Once I graduated high school, I actually started studying beauty therapy. However, my love of sport and basketball lead to me to Personal Training, and that’s when I discovered how much I loved helping people to become healthier and happier!
I have never looked back since, for me it was a great life changing decision.
FFFC: How do you balance making time to get in your workouts with the demands of your career and personal life?
K: I go for a walk every morning with my puppy, Ace. I usually do a full workout once I’ve finished training my clients, generally around 8:00pm.
FFFC: What do you consider the most useful workout equipment?
K: Your body in general! My Bikini Body Training Guide workouts don’t require a gym to complete them.
FFFC: What do you think is the biggest misconception about this field and what you do?
Kayla Itsines: More exercise = more results.
Most people are under the illusion that you have to train twice a day, seven days a week and weigh all your food to the gram to get results.
This could not be further from the truth. I have heard of many people increasing their training amount just because they weren’t getting any results.
Over training and stressing your body will actually make it harder for you to lose weight.
Both exercising for a long time in one session or exercising multiple times per day, every day, will raise your cortisol ( stress hormone ) levels and inhibit your bodies normal functions/reaction to training including hormone production, weight loss, & energy production.
It is not as simple as calories in vs. energy out.
FFFC: What general tips do you have for the average woman trying to balance family, career with a fitness lifestyle?
K: Find a simple plan and stick to it. Consistency is the biggest piece of advice that can ever be given to anyone. If you train 110% and eat 110% only 10% of the time, you’ll still only get 10% results.
I would rather eat and train well 100% and get 100% results.
FFFC: Do you have any words of wisdom to share with our readers who continue to struggle with poor eating and drinking choices and habits?
I could write about this question for ages! There are so many little tips or foods you can use to help curb cravings for sugar or bad food. I think the biggest mistake women make is that they try to change overnight and they cut a lot of carbs out.
My recommendation here is to keep carbs in — just exchange bad, sugary ones for healthy and high-fiber carbohydrates.
This will keep you full, help curb carb cravings and will give you a lot more long-term energy. I am not saying you’ll forget about chocolate, but it will soon leave the front of your mind when your abs start showing.

She looks fabulous! I agree that over training just causes injuries and not necessarily results. Being consistent is the key

Great interview with Kayla! First off Kayla hats off to rocking body! Before kids I had time to work out 5-6 days a week and two a days 2-3 days. However, balancing home and work life I try to fit in 4-5 days a week at the gym and walking the other days with my kids. It’s amazing how only 25-30 min. of exercise a day can impact your lifestyle. Great advice!

I love her mission statement! There IS so much distrust and confusion in the industry, it can be frustrating, both for clients AND trainers alike!

Great interview! She’s so right when she says simple bodyweight moves are really all you need. So many of us over complicate things.

I love her view on exercise. It’s not more time for more result. I’m quickly learning that you can get and see noticeable changes in short training times if you train smart.

Hi Diatta,
Love your interview, Kayla is in amazing shape. I’ve been thinking about buying her guide. Do you think it’s really worth the $119? This web page says there is more hidden costs http://www.bikinibodyguidereview.com ??? Do you know if this is true?

Hi Amanda! Honestly I don’t know because I’ve never seen it or used it. I have heard there are some other free options that may work just as good too.
