FFFC: Please introduce yourself to our readers (i.e. your name, occupation, hobbies, etc.).
SO: My name is Sue Omar, I am a 25-year-old Journalist, Presenter and YouTuber with a passion for beauty, style and fitness.
FFFC: What sparked your weight-loss transformation journey?
SO: I wanted more for myself and I finally identified that my weight was stopping me from living the life I deserved. Being fed up and finally make the decision to rise the challenge and not give up is really what fueled my journey. The aim was to be healthy and do reach my weight loss goal the natural way, no matter how long it would take.
FFFC: What was your beginning and current weight or measurements?
SO: I don’t ever like to share my current weight. But I can tell you that I lost 130 pounds in total in around 13 months. My current waist is 27 inches and I wear a UK Size 10 to 12 in clothes. I use to be a UK size 24.
FFFC: How long did it take for your weight-loss transformation from beginning to end?
SO: Next month marks 3 years on this beautiful journey. I lost most of the weight in a year and have maintained for two years.
FFFC: Which physical activities did you participate in during your journey?
SO: I signed up to gym on the first day of my journey – April 29 2013. I started with gym classes like Zumba and boxercise. I also started walking on the treadmill until I could run. Now, I love doing a mixture of cardio and strength training with weights. I love spin class!
FFFC: How did your eating habits change?
SO: My eating changed a lot. I cut out as much refined sugar as possible and went completely low carb – no bread, rice or pasta. I would eat a lot of protein through lean meats. Snack on nuts, popcorn and fruits. Lots of water instead of juice or fizzy drinks. I’m now a pescatarian but the rest of my diet is still low carb with the same principles.
I gave up junk food, over indulging in chocolate and carby dinners!
FFFC: What do you typically eat for breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner?
SO:
Breakfast: Eggs with a piece of fruit and black coffee or a cereal with soya milk
Lunch: A salad with some form of fish. Or a homemade vegetable soup.
Dinner: Salmon steak with veggies or lentil stew with veggies.
Snacks: Nuts, fruits, any natural – gluten free protein bars
FFFC: What is your favorite fitness activity?
SO: I love spin class.
FFFC: What do you do now to maintain your physique?
SO: I eat the same since day 1. As clean as possible with the odd cheat treat to keep my focused. I love working out so that keeps me fit.
FFFC: How did you develop and sustain the willpower to avoid the bad stuff (i.e. junk food, bad drinks, lack of activity, etc.)?
SO: I allow myself to eat something whenever I want it. For example, because I love chocolate and I never cut it out, I would just have a small bit each week but only if I’ve earned it. This helped keep me on track because I see it more of a lifestyle change rather than a restrictive diet.
FFFC: What advice do you have for someone looking to get started with their fitness journey but not sure where to begin?
SO: I would suggest watching my YouTube channel for tips and tricks. Make the decision, come up a healthy game plan and go for it. Get a diary and monitor your weight, food and workouts – until you understand what works for you. Everybody is different.
FFFC: What do you think is the biggest misconception about this journey?
SO: That it is easy or that it is impossible. People who think it is easy will think that you just eat less and the weight falls off. It takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears to gain results!
FFFC: Do you have any fitness inspirations? Who are they?
Diva Slims Down on YouTube. Her weight loss story really inspired me to keep pushing.
FFFC: How can readers learn more about your transformation and journey online (i.e. Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, etc.)?
