Featured Fitale – Maha

Please introduce yourself to our readers (i.e. your name, occupation, hobbies, etc.).

Hi, my name is Maha, I’m a full time student who’s passionate about fitness.

What sparked your weight-loss transformation journey?

I started my fitness journey in 2014 after realizing I became fat. I’m 5’11 and currently weigh 170 lbs.

What was your beginning and current weight or measurements?

I started my journey at 187 lbs and cut it down to 155 lbs. Then I focused on muscle gain and gained back a healthy weight.

How long did it take for your weight-loss transformation from beginning to end?

I’ve been training for 3 years but my biggest weight loss took me two months and half last year. From 2014 to 2015 I wasn’t consistent at all but I managed to lose about 12 lbs. Then in 2015, in 2 months and half I lost 20 pounds.

How did your eating habits change?

I used to eat junk food almost everyday that’s what got me fat and changing my eating habits was the biggest key to my weight lost.  I was eating pretty clean, which means no processed food, I cooked my meals, eat  veggies, fruits and whole grain.

What do you typically eat for breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner?

Here are some example of what I eat at breakfast when I’m trying to loose weight.
  • 1 whole wheat bagel with peanut butter and banana and a cup of thea;
  • a bowl of oatmeal with some berries;
  • 2 whole wheat toast with egg whites;

For snacks I like

  • rice cakes,
  • can of tuna,
  • granola bar,
  • fruits or a
  • protein shake.

For lunch I eat

  • sandwich with chicken,
  • turkey or tuna (using whole wheat toast or tortilla);
  • brown rice with broccoli and chicken breast;
  • potatoes with any meat with some veggies

For dinner I’ll eat

  • a chicken salad or any other salad;
  • tilapia with veggies or chicken with veggies.

I’m still eating pizza or cakes sometimes but I eat healthy most of the time. I think that’s the key to maintain a healthy eating habits, It’s all about finding a balance. Eat healthy but allow yourself to eat a burger, or pizza from time to time.

What do you do now to maintain your physique?

I was also doing weights training 3 times a week and cardio 3-4 times a week. My cardio mostly consist of HIIT (high intense interval workout). I’m now trying to gain lean muscle with as little fat as possible so I do weight lifting 4 times a week and do cardio twice a week to minimize fat gain.

What advice do you have for someone looking to get started with their fitness journey but not sure where to begin?

My advice to anyone who want to start training is don’t be afraid to be a beginner, you’ll learn. You can start by changing your diet that’s the biggest step and start watching home workouts video on YouTube and train at home. Also don’t be afraid to get a gym membership, everybody there is trying to become better and no one will laugh at you for trying. If you don’t know how a machine works just ask anyone they’ll be happy to help you.

Do you have any fitness inspirations?  Who are they?
