Kells

Please introduce yourself to our readers (i.e. your name, occupation, hobbies, etc.).

Hi, my name is Kelsey…or Kells. I currently work for Miami-Dade County in the Parks and Rec Department. I am currently studying to become a personal trainer so I do a lot of studying as well.

What sparked your weight-loss transformation journey?

When I started my new job back I had to go up three flights of stairs and by the time I made it to the top I was completely out of breath. Coming from an athletic family and being pretty fit all my life this was a huge shocker for me. That’s when I knew I had to make a change.

What was your beginning and current weight or measurements?

Measurements?! I have no clue. I didn’t even want to weigh myself at the beginning lol. When I started out I was my heaviest of 220 at 5’7. My weight now fluctuates around 178/180.

How long did it take for your weight-loss transformation from beginning to end?

I started once I was gifted an Apple Watch from my boyfriend at Christmas…so about 8 months.

Which physical activities did you participate in during your journey?

At first I did lots and lotsssss and LOTS of cardio lol but then I realized how much I loved lifting. I started incorporating weight training into my fitness journey. I wholeheartedly feel weight training definitely had a tremendous part in sculpting out my body quickly.

How did your eating habits change?

My eating changed drastically! I was use to eating any and everything that I wanted and not thinking twice about it. I had to get very disciplined when it came to my eating because it was something so different to what I was use to.

What do you typically eat for breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner?

Breakfast would be something like egg whites, turkey bacon and some veggies. If I’m short for time toast with avocado is always a good idea. Lunch and dinner are usually the same for me. I like to grill or bake my chicken and ground turkey is another option. I don’t have a problem with eating the same thing three times in a row so I think this is where I had an advantage. I don’t snack so much now but hummus is definitely a favorite snack of mine.

What is your favorite fitness activity?

Strength training! I love lifting weights.

What do you do now to maintain your physique?

I make sure that I am still eating clean and I train hard. I love to incorporate weights into my cardio that way I’m still sculpting out my body at the same time.

How did you develop and sustain the willpower to avoid the bad stuff (i.e. junk food, bad drinks, lack of activity, etc.)?

It sounds so cliche but I had to remember why I started…that’s what kept me going. This wasn’t my first time trying to get fit by all means. So when I thought back on the reasons why I was doing this in the first place it wasn’t to hard to avoid it. After a few months I didn’t even crave certain things such as soda or some foods that I use to love. When it comes having the drive to workout I would sometimes get on Instagram and look at some videos and kind of hype myself up to make a move to get to the gym if I was feeling lazy that day.

Band work with some glute isolation 🎉 so resistance bands aren’t necessary howeverrrr they are a great accessory to have during your workouts…& increase that burn 🔥😈 Did this little circuit as part of my burnout after a heavy leg day. 💪🏽 ➡️ Lateral Band Walk ➡️Donkey Kicks 5×20 each leg ➡️ Hip Bridge 5×20 Bands are from @myplayfit.me . . . . @afrogirlfitness @fit_chocolate365 @blackwomendoworkout @blackfitnessnow @blackgirlfitspo @ebonyfitfreaks #fitness #fitnessaddict #motivation #workoutmotivation #gluteworkout #glutebuilding #legdayworkout #motivation #weightloss #weightlossjourney #abs #abcheck #fitchick #transformationtuesday #abworkout #weightlossmotivation #fitnessjourney #abworkout #fitspo #transformation #nonscalevictory #abworkout #weightlosstransformation #pushups #livefitempire #workout #thickfit #snatchedwaist #fitnesslife #glutes #legday #fitspire

What advice do you have for someone looking to get started with their fitness journey but not sure where to begin?

The only advice I could really give: just start! You may not know everything at the beginning and that’s completely fine! Educate yourself on different cardio circuits or strength training programs…whatever it may be. You can always look things up on YouTube, Pinterest, or Instagram which is my favorite for finding different exercises. You don’t have to start in the gym either it can be cleaning up your eating! Eliminate the sodas, juices, fried foods things of that nature. Small things add up!

What do you think is the biggest misconception about this journey?

The fad diets. You didn’t put your weight on overnight so there’s no way you’ll lose it all overnight either. Take your time, trust the process.

Do you have any fitness inspirations?  Who are they?

I have so many that I follow but one in particular is @Qui2Health on IG.

How can readers learn more about your transformation and journey online (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.)?
