Setting good examples for our children as it relates to staying healthy is extremely important. I know we have a makeshift home gym in our basement and from the time they were babies, our children observed my husband and me working out. As they got older they then attempted to mimic us and our workouts which really touched me.
If you want to get your family moving more, sitting less (from watching television, playing on the computer or video games) here is our family fun five ways to get moving and active.
- Go to the park: Find a park near your home, load up the bikes or skates and head on out with the family. The kids may complain at first but trust me they will enjoy being outside with nature, breathing fresh air and being active with family.
- Sign them up for a fitness program: My gym offers adult/children fitness classes like Crossfit and yoga that is paired down to accomodate children but allows adults to participate as well. Sometimes kids don’t want to go at it alone so having mommy or daddy there along with siblings makes it a family affair and a lot of fun. Many times you get a “group” discount for signing everyone up too.
- Similar to item 3 above, sign up for a boot camp: My boot camp group runs specials some months where your children can come workout with the parents FOR FREE. It’s their goal to beat childhood obesity by allowing parents to work out with their kids and to help get the kids active. It’s a great option and there may be a similar option in your area.
- Learn something: Head to the museum or zoo where walking is required and get in those steps. Your family will not only bond and get in some exercise, you’ll also learn and see some new things. I’m all about that education.
- Cook together: Fitness is 70% to 80% what you put in your mouth so teach your children good eating habits by letting them help you prepare lunch or dinner. They will learn how to cook for themselves but also be more inclined to eat the healthy dish because they had a hand in preparing it. Our family enjoys cooking together.

For the last four weeks, the Sweat Pink community teamed up with BOSU to show the world what it means to be #BOSUStrong. One thing that makes me BOSUStrong is my family because they inspire me to be the best me I can be. And I hope to inspire them to to live fit and healthy lives.
Andre, Amari and Ysonde and I love to laugh together! We work hard on week days, and take advantage of the weekends to spend time together! I introduced Amari to squats and love watching Amari get his squats on. He’s really good at it.
Any time we try pull ups, Ysonde amazes me/kicks my butt! A family that works out together, sticks together!
