Please introduce yourself to our readers (i.e. your name, occupation, hobbies, etc.).

My name is Kailyn, I am 31 and a mother of two boys, age 6.5 and 22 months. I am married and work part time as a barber.

What sparked your weight-loss transformation journey?

Having children sparked my weight loss transformation journey. It was told to me my whole life that once we have children, all the women get severely overweight and never lose it again and that’s just “how our genetics are” and I had no control over that. I wanted to prove that wrong.

What was your beginning and current weight or measurements?

Before children I weighed 168. After my second child I weighed 201. I have now lost weight down to 159.

How long did it take for your weight-loss transformation from beginning to end?

I started dieting after my second was a month old, started exercising/weight lifting when he was 11 months old and I’m still going now, so almost 2 years!

Which physical activities did you participate in during your journey?

After I lost 37 pounds on a low fat, 1500 calorie a day diet tracked by my fitness pal, I weighed 164. I gained a bit back to 176. Then I started weight lifting and some cardio 8 months ago along with 1500 calories a day, eating the Keto diet.

How did your eating habits change?

Said above, two 600 calorie meals and one 300 calorie snack, keto diet

What do you typically eat for breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner?

Maybe an omelet, eggs or bacon with avocado for breakfast. Snacks include meat and cheeses, quest bars, protein powder with oats, low carb toast/bagel. etc. and dinner can be many things! My food options are Posted in my highlight reel on my Instagram page. Low carb pastas and breads, a lot of green veggies, soups, meats, fish, salads, sandwiches, crock pot dishes, low sugar options for desserts, etc etc

What is your favorite fitness activity?

Weight lifting! I love sculpting my body as I lose body fat!

What do you do now to maintain your physique?

4-5 days a week exercise and eating 1500 calories a day keto diet, still losing weight at this point, and maybe one cheat meal a week.

How did you develop and sustain the willpower to avoid the bad stuff (i.e. junk food, bad drinks, lack of activity, etc.)?

I stopped drinking calories and started using flavors for water to keep away from sodas and sugary drinks. I pack my work lunches and foods when I go places as to not rely on “buying out” (there’s not a lot of healthy low calorie options out there and even if there is, it’s tempting to order the bad stuff) I developed a habit of going to the gym every day same time same place and I IGNORE when my brain tries to tell me I don’t want to go and I tell myself I don’t wanna hear that voice and keep going. I allow myself a cheat meal (not day) once a week so I can still indulge. I’ve found low carb/sugar/calorie  replacements that still let me feel like I’m eating delicious foods without the bad stuff.

What advice do you have for someone looking to get started with their fitness journey but not sure where to begin?

STUDY!! Read a ton! Watch videos! Learn the craft! The more you know, the less you feel you’re guessing. Track your food, it’s easy to accidentally go over and over eat just enough to not lose. And don’t get too impatient with the process. Esp as a woman. Hormones go up and down, water weight etc. don’t expect it to be fast, enjoy the journey, time will go by anyway so may as well be in the right direction! If the scale upsets you, don’t weigh every day. Once a week. Take BEFORE photos so when you don’t see progress you can compare and see the small changes it’s hard to see in the mirror.

What do you think is the biggest misconception about this journey?

It’s going to be miserable. It’s not, you can make it fun and delicious too.
