3 Tips to Reduce PMS #pms #pmscramprelief

Disclaimer:  This post is sponsored by U by Kotex but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

I remember as a teenager having these killer cramps during PMS and that time of the month.  There were days I would stay home from school because I was just too uncomfortable to pay attention in class.

Fast forward to after having children, I thought since I survived labor pains, my PMS symptoms would decrease – no such luck.  With all of that said, I tried some methods that indeed have helped eliminate or reduce discomfort from PMS and I want to share them with you.

Increase physical activity

I found, during those weeks I did not workout as much, I suffered greatly during that time of the month.  When I stayed more consistent with my 5-days a week workouts my cramps were less severe or nonexistent.

The reason being, when you exercise your body releases hormones called endorphins which makes you feel good.

I workout right through that time of the month too because it helps me and I recommend it to my clients.

Decrease consumption of processed food high in simple carbs

I found if I indulge in “junk food” more frequently my cramps are out of this world.

That’s because they are full of empty calories from excess fat, sugar and salt which all can wreak havoc on your body and hormones.

Also, the more fat you carry on your body, it increases estrogen production which contributes to cramping so don’t feed your body crap which will make it store fat and see your cramps from PMS diminish.

It really works.

Get plenty of rest

With all of the ripping and running many of us don’t get enough proper sleep nightly that best serves our body.  Our bodies need at least 7 to 8 hours of rest every night to repair, replenish and restore.

Many women are lucky to get 4 to 5 hours of sleep.  Over time that will wreak havoc on your body and increase cramps due to PMS.

Put Facebook on pause, turn off the television and hit the hay early consistently and you will be surprised how PMS cramps decreases.

Other things you can do during that time of painful PMS are:

  1. Spend time with family and friends
  2. Laugh more
  3. Stress less
  4. Do gentle exercises like yoga or meditation
  5. Stretch
  6. Apply heat to the cramping area for additional comfort
  7. Relax

You don’t have to suffer in silence so give these methods a try and let me know how it works out for you.
