My Race Results in the Metro Delta 5K Race

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Guess what, my race results in the Metro Delta 5K were awesome!  I ran a 5K on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Druid Hill Park in Baltimore, MD.  You are probably thinking, big WHOOP, but no seriously I ran it, hills and all, and had like a new race-time PR.  I am very excited about it.

The race was hosted by my sorority sisters, the Baltimore Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and  was established to raise money for scholarships (Femme Fitale loves the kids and believes in education).  It was called the Metro 5K Race and Fun Walk and fun it was.

I didn’t quite know what to expect because I paid for a registration last year and never went (I know LOSER MOVE).  I don’t really know my way around Baltimore City that well, let alone Druid Hill Park but I text my girl who was the chair and she instructed me perfectly to the start spot.

I roll up and I hear the lively music playing with a DJ and was immediately excited.  I saw a sea of beautiful Crimson and Cream (our sorority colors) convening and started to get even MORE excited.

I parked and went over to the pavilion and immediately saw sorors I hadn’t seen in months and some, in YEARS!!  Hugs and cheek kisses for everybody!  I went up and got my bib and shirt and was ready to take off.  Fortunately my Nike+ Running app was behaving and started on time without still searching for a satellite.

We gathered around the starting line and we were OFF.  The race was very well organized.  The course was challenging but not impossible and the organizers took pictures of us along the course which was nice.  When we crossed the finish line they had a live feed scrolling with our names, bib # and finish times.  And what did I see?  I was below 30 minutes from beginning to end – WOOOHOOOO!

Considering I hadn’t been running a lot outside lately, that is excellent time since Druid Hills is known for its HILLS.  Each of my miles were sub 10!!!!  Oh how could I forget – they had refreshments after the race such as watermelon, water, Gatorade, oranges, Belvita breakfast biscuits and bananas.  Lastly they handed us goodie bags filled with – well GOODIES!

Thank you sorors for hosting such a fun race and “sorority reunion” of sorts, at least for me, and I definitely look forward to participating again next year!

Have any of you participated in a race for a good cause?  Why do you like that race?

Congratulations! What great results! Under 30 minutes is less than 10 mins a mile–that’s amazing!

Love this story and race recap! Nice PR too. It’s so much better when you set low expectations right? Or have no expectations. For me anyways because I put in way too much pressure on myself. #wowlinkup
