Product Review: Energy Bits

logo

I had started hearing a lot of buzz about this energy food that can provide an enormous amount of protein and energy for workouts.  I saw them mentioned on Twitter and in the blogosphere so it genuinely piqued my interest.  This amazing superfood is called Energybits and is 100% spirulina algae.  Here is how the company describes this energy food:

“Want more energy, more mental vitality, or a healthy high protein snack you can grab on the go? How about a quick way to boost your athletic performance, supercharge your run or crank up your endurance while working or working out? If so, ENERGYbits® are for you. Made from 100% organicallly grown spirulina algae and loaded with 40 nutrients, ENERGYbits® algae tabs have the highest concentration of protein in the world (64%) all for just one calorie per tab. Endorsed by the United Nations as the most nutritious food on earth, spirulina algae has been a favorite of Olympic gold medalists for decades and is a super food in every sense of the word, delivering instant and enduring energy to your brain and body.”

Doesn’t this sound like something you just have to try and see if it will work for you?  I thought so!

How to take them

For best results, swallow at least 30 ENERGYbits® (or more) before any workout, run, game or intense physical or mental activity. They will improve your energy and endurance. Also take whenever you are tired, hungry or don’t have time to eat or cook. They are a terrific high protein, low calorie snack or meal on the go.  A favorite of Olympic athletes.Swallow with beverage (or chew them as you would a handful of nuts). Remember, they’re “bits” of food (not pills).

My Experience

IMG_0927

I received a sample size of ENERGYbits from the company with 70 little bits inside the tin.  I took 30 of the bits before my 4-mile training run with Black Girls Run! Baltimore last Sunday.  Our run was schedule for 8:30 am so I took them at about 8:00 am.  They say to take at least 10 to 15 minutes before your activity.  I figured 30 minutes should give it enough time to kick in.  I showed up for the run and after the first 15 minutes I was ready to pick up the pace and started running ahead of the pack of us running the same distance.  I got to the 2-mile mark before everybody else and waited.  I was bursting with energy and really could have kept on running but I did not want to go too far ahead.  I mean what is the point of running with a group if you end up running alone?  The other ladies caught up the 2-mile mark and we ran back together initially and then I pulled away from the pack again.  I mean I just had an abundance of energy!

After our run, I went home and washed 4 loads of laundry, cooked, did dishes and totally cleaned out our refrigerator.  I was amped!  This is hours after taking the little algae ENERGYbits.  It was bananas.  But the best part was I wasn’t jittery, feeling wired or anything.  I just had energy to get stuff done and I did it.  When I went to sleep – I had a very sound restful sleep.  I felt well rested the next day.

I then had boot camp scheduled for Monday so I decided to take 30 more bits at 5 am which is 30 minutes before our 1-hour session.  I was sprinting, running, etc. with an abundance of energy to spare.  I then went to work and was vivid, alert and wide awake the entire day while on conference calls and attending meetings.  I felt GOOD!!!

The third day I took the last 10 bits and worked out with my personal trainer.  The energy continued and I was able to do the entire workout without complaining or stopping!  I know my PT was happy.

What I like about them

  1. They are easy to take.  I know when you read “30 ENERGYbits” at one time sounds overwhelming but seriously they are small enough you can easily swallow 10 at a time with water.  At least that is how I consumed them.
  2. They give you a good amount of energy without jitters, feeling wired or feeling hyped up on caffeine.
  3. They are real food.  Not a supplement or artificial.  They are 100% organic.  Gotta love it.
  4. They are packed with nutrients.

What they need to improve

  1. They smell a little bit like fish food, not the best smell.
  2. They are pricey.  They retail for $115.00 for a 30-days supply of ENERGYbits.  I know we all want energy but who spends that much on a single food item?  Not me.

My rating

I give this product an 8 out of 10 rating.  All in all, I like this food product and am tempted to purchase a 30-day supply to see how my overall performance improves with more days of consistent consumption.  I really feel like I could be on the upswing if I kept taking these more than 3 days.  The price point is what really keeps this from being a solid 10.

ENERGYbits are only available at ENERGYbits.com, and Jonathan (their Brand Manager) has shared with me that he’d be happy to connect anyone with a current ambassador to share a discount on a bag of bits – you can email him at [email protected]“.  If you are also interested in their sample purchase program, contact Jonathan via email.  They offer samples at $5/serving.

I will say – the company is very generous.  They have agreed to sponsor a sample tin of ENERGYbits to our Femme Fitale Fit Club avid readers.  The winner will receive 70 ENERGYbits in the sample tin.

This giveaways begins January 22 @ midnight and ends January 30 @ midnight.  A winner will be announced no later than Saturday, February 1, 2014.  This giveaway is open to U.S. residents only, 18+ years or older.  Good LUCK!

I never have enough energy. For example, I’ve been on the sofa all day napping knowing I need to work out. I take vitamins and nothing works. I will try anything! But for 115 they better work. So this seems like the perfect way to see if they are for me.

Begin slowly with this if you have food allergies and watch for warning signs, I ended up being allergic to the pill form of Spirulina Algae, unfortunately.

I would like to try them because I notice a distinct difference in health and energy when I have a really high intake of dark greens and extra chlorophyll. Unfortunately I don’t always remember or have time before running out the door. these would be great for me to keep in my purse for a quick pick-me-up.
