C is for Cardio


We women tend to lean towards cardio.  Perhaps it is because we are told it burns fat.  Also, if you don’t sweat during a workout do you ever feel like you ever really worked out?  I love cardio like the next person so let me share some of my favorite forms of cardio.

1.  Stepmill:  I normally call this machine a BEAST because it will leave you dripping with sweat.  I also do a WTC (World Trade Center) workout on it which  means you have to climb at least 88 flights of stairs.  If you have shied away from this machine – don’t.  It is killer but you will be better for it.


2.  Jump rope:  The boxers’ cardio.  And I don’t mean the leisurely type of jump rope – I’m talking about speed rope.  Rapid movement of the rope and hops which gets your heart rate going.  This burns mega calories.  Depending on your body weight and fitness level calorie burn can vary but it is guaranteed to burn fat.  Try it with interval training or in between circuits of push ups or squats.  Jump rope3.  Running:  One of the most popular forms of cardio as of late.  Run alone, with friends, inside or outside.  It’s all good.   Incorporate sprints, hills and steady state for a well-rounded cardio adventure.  Either way it is all good.


4.  Plyos:  Jump squats, jump lunges, box jumps and dynamic push ups are just a few forms of plyos that is sure to get your heart rate pounding.  This will really confuse your body if it is used to a particular routine.

These are my favorite forms of cardio (not in any particular order).  Given we are in the April Cinch an Inch Challenge, cardio is one of the best ways to burn fat and decrease your waist by an inch.  Change it up, keep your body guessing and constantly challenge yourself.

    The step mill is TOUGH. I can run for miles but barely last on the step mill. Have you ever heard of tower races? People race the stairs to the top if a building!

    I do alot of walking but been seriously thinking of getting one of those stair thing.

    Whoa! I’ve seen people on that stair machine and they always look exhausted! I just do a treadmill now. I temporarily damaged my knee on a stair-stepper machine and was lectured on how bad those are (although it’s the pushing down motion that’s bad, so it’s not the same as the stairs), so I play it safe now! I had “pre-patella bursitis,” I think it’s called? Aleve cured it, but I wasn’t able to work out for two weeks, which sucked.

      Stephanie it is a BEAST but it burns calories like no other. If your doctor has cleared you just try it for like 5 minutes and see how you feel. Thanks for stopping by.
