Please introduce yourself to our readers

Hey, My name is Jomira. I’m a mom & work full time with individuals who have intellectual/developmental disabilities.

What sparked your weight-loss transformation journey?

I started my weight loss journey in 2016 after struggling to keep up with my son.

How long did it take for your weight-loss transformation from beginning to end?

At my heaviest I was 311 lbs with a 50+ inch waist.

It’s been 4 years of up & down but I remain consistent. In the beginning I was determine to find the quick fix which led to me losing & gaining weight for a year before I realized it’s a lifestyle change not simply a temporary diet.

Which physical activities did you participate in during your journey?

I started with just cardio then I discovered weight training in 2018. I love HIIT style workouts & try to burn 1000 calories a day.

How did your eating habits change?

I consume 1000-1500 calories a day on a high protein/low carb/flexitarian diet.

What do you typically eat for breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner?

I start my day with oatmeal & egg whites or a protein shake.  For lunch & dinner I have a lean protein with plenty of veggies.

I snack on things that have a decent amount of protein; boiled eggs, protein shakes/bars or string cheese & pickles. It’s very important for me to maintain balance.

I still have adult beverages (Tequila/lime, twice a month) & will enjoy tacos or shrimp & broccoli but I’ve become more of a conscious eater.

I prepare some meals for myself in a healthier way so I still can enjoy the things I like.

What is the biggest misconception about this journey

The biggest misconception I’ve encountered on this journey is the thought that there’s only one “right way” to lose weight.

As long as you are practicing healthy & sustainable methods then it’s the right way for you.

There’s NO product that will do the work for you & it will not be easy all the time. Take the time to find out what you need to be successful.

Do you have any fitness inspirations?  Who are they?

My fitness journey has been inspired by so many people but I feel truly motivated when I see people who look like me break the traditional cycle of bad health.

How can readers learn more about your transformation and journey online (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.)?

I use my instagram platform @MyFitishLifestyle to document the last year of my journey.

I stay motivated by watching these black women & men conquer healthy lifestyles.
