As a busy working mom I do not have a lot of time to make big labor-intensive meals so my go-to meal every other week is spaghetti.  I love it because it is fairly easy to make, it cooks up in no time, you can slide in extra vegetables without the children knowing they are getting extra vegetables, it powers my runs for the next day with the whole-grain pasta *snicker*, it’s flavorful and there is typically extras for lunch the next day at work.

It’s a win-win all around if you ask me.  I typically use the non-organic version of spaghetti sauce for my recipe but since I was provided the Wild Oats Organic Tomato Basil Spaghetti Sauce, what a great chance to try a product that ups the health factor for my family.  What is Wild Oats brand you ask?

Wild Oats Organic is a new product line available at your local Walmart store.  Their prices are affordable which means more people can take advantage of eating organic without going broke in the process.  Spaghetti sauce is just one of their products.  Check out their other products here.

Price:  The spaghetti sauce I used cost about $1.88 at Walmart.

Ingredients:

1 jar Wild Oats Organic Spaghetti Sauce – Tomato Basil

1 package whole-grain spaghetti

1 lb ground turkey meat

1 TB olive oil

1 TB himalayan sea salt

2 bay leaves

1 zucchini diced

1 onion diced

2 cloves garlic chopped

Instructions:  Heat the olive oil in the pan but don’t burn. Saute the zucchini and onions until translucent and then remove from pan.  Brown the ground turkey and pour out any excess juices.  Return the cooked vegetables to the pan and add the chopped garlic.  Cook for about 2 minutes and then add Wild Oats Organic spaghetti sauce, 2 bay leaves, and salt.  Let simmer another 5 minutes but do not overcook but it will dry out.  For the spaghetti, boil water, add olive oil and himalayan sea salt and then the pasta.  Follow cooking instructions on box.  Once done al dente drain the water and serve with the spaghetti sauce.IMG_1691Review:  The family LOVED this sauce.  They typically like my spaghetti but the 7 and 12 year olds plus my husband were raving about how delicious the food was.  I have to admit, it was very good.  LOL.  It even tasted more flavorful the next day when I took some to work for lunch.  This is definitely a winner and keeper.  Given it’s affordability and the fact there are 2 Walmart stores each within 3 miles of my home I will definitely be picking up my own jars to keep the family happy.

What I liked:  It was delicious, healthy and the family loved it.  It cooked up deliciously well and leftovers tasted even better.

What could have been better:  NOTHING this was PERFECT.

Rating:  I give this 10 out of 10 stars.  Perfect price point, healthy, easy to find and very easy to prepare.  Everything a mother loves!  I hope you like my recipe, bon appetite.
