Saving the Tatas

Excited to show up and show off at the Susan G. Komen race.

I participated in my second ever Susan G. Komen 5K Walk/Run yesterday in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.  It was so nice to participate and engage.  I was asked to come by my friend whose mother is a 9-year survivor.  How blessed is that!!  The weather was cool and crisp, folks came out in droves and you could feel the positivity in the air.  I was hyped.  Not just because I got a chance to run again but because my 11-year old daughter was with me.  I have been looking for opportunities for us to do things together and this was one such event.  Not just because she would spend time with me but because her best friend was there (another 11-year old).

We got there, took photos with our “Darlene’s Angels” shirts and then I lined up to run.  Don’t you know with all the folks there at the starting line – I look around and who do I see?  Another Femme Fitale Fit Club member looking back at me!  Who woulda’ known?  It felt so good to see someone familiar.  That is what the club does – help build connections and support.  After we exchanged hugs and hello’s the race started and we started our run together.

I started feeling good around mile 1 and my legs loosened up and I took off.  Check out my splits to see how I sped up.   As you can see I warmed up after mile 1.

As I showed up at the finish line I walked back around to the start to walk with “Darlene’s Angels” because you see my friend, our daughters, her family and friends all planned to walk and since the run began at 8 am and the walk started at 8:30 am I timed it such that I could catch up to them once the walk started.  I did the 5K loop twice which really helped me get closer to my 60-mile challenge Personal Record challenge goal this month.

I saw some funny stuff including “Save The Tatas” t-shirts worn by MEN with pink hair and pink tutus of all things.  LOL!!!  I was so in violation on a few levels during this race.  1.  I didn’t register – I just showed up and ran and 2.  I took water and food after the run even though I was not registered.  Didn’t seem like anyone cared.  I did donate some money so I hope that accounts for something.

You will be happy to know I replenished my energy stores with water, a bagel and a NICE crisp homemade salad!  YUMMY!!  #FitFabFri

Congrats on another finish! My daughter and I have participated several times. We do it to honor all women!
