FFF Challenge #3: Eat at least 3 servings of fruit

I hope everyone participated in last week’s challenge and adopted it as a new healthy habit.  Eating breakfast daily is extremely important.  The women of Femme FITale participated in large numbers consistently and I am very happy about that.  Today is the start of a new weekly challenge.

Drum roll please…………..this week’s challenge is:

 

Eat at least 3 servings of fruit a day

Fruit really does the body good.  The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) sets a serving size for fruit or vegetables to be equal to about one-half cup.  A single piece of fruit is considered 1 serving but 1/2 cup of sliced fruit is considered a single serving.  I personally LOVE fruit and look forward to this challenge.

Fruits are rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber and phytochemicals that may act as antioxidants that protect the cells in your body.  Fruit is typically low in calories which help fuel the body for all of that activity us Fitties participate in on a weekly basis without packing on unecessary weight.

Some of my favorite fruits include:

1.  Green apples

2.  Pineapples

3.  Strawberries

4.  Blueberries

5.  Peaches

6.  Bananas

So eat up, this is one of the few SWEET challenges there is!  Be sure to check in daily on your progress with this challenge!  Let’s GO!

    Eating locally grown fruit will also give you better flavor. Many of the fruits that are in our grocery stores are picked green and shipped 1000s of miles to get to us. Most people have no idea at all what a ripe pineapple even tastes like because the ones you have been enjoying for year are mostly green!! Buy locally as much as possible to enhance flavor and nutrition potential of what you actually put in your body.

      Exactly. Several local grocery stores will have bins set up in the produce aisle with a “locally grown” notation depending on what is in season for that region.

      I did not know what a real pineapple tasted like until I had one while vacationing in Hawaii. Nothing like it.
