In The Gym with Vegan Chef Jamila of EarthyCandy

Jamila Crawford of EarthCandy

FFFC:  Please introduce yourself to our readers.

JC:  I am Jamila Crawford; a daughter, mother, sister and creative; mastermind of EARTHCANDY* Food.Fashion.Flyness, a lifestyle brand.

FFFC:  How did you learn to cook?

JC:  I learned via osmosis! Lol! Seriously, I watched my mother and grandmother cook and decided to make things for myself. I started at 9 years old with omelettes and oatmeal raisin cookies.

FFFC:  What kinds of foods do you eat?

JC:  I eat fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. Nothing with eyes and ears (except potatoes and corn :))

FFFC:  Who helped you develop your skill as vegan chef?

JC:  Again, I was self-taught. There were many meals I enjoyed dining on back in the day that I’ve missed since becoming a vegan over 20 years ago. I took it upon myself to ‘veganize’ some of my favorites, with the help of some plant-based products on the market.

FFFC:  Who are your typical clients?

JC:  Everyday people to celebrated entertainers… I don’t discriminate; everybody has to eat, and I make sure that as many as I can, eat WELL!

FFFC:  What is your favorite dish to prepare?

JC:  My favorite as of late is a raw vegan Cheesecake. I do a web show called EARTHCANDY, you can subscribe to my YouTube channel to learn the really easy process to prepare it!

FFFC:  Any advice to busy women as to how they can prepare nutritious meals for themselves and their families with such busy schedules?

JC:  My advice is to MAKE time to prepare. Take a couple hours of one day out of the week to chop, slice, package, label and refrigerate. Be your own sous chef so when the time comes to cook, you’ve already completed half of the work!

FFFC:  What do you see as the biggest advantage to adopting a vegan lifestyle?

JC:  You’re guaranteed better health, plus it’s more animal friendly  and environmentally responsible than the amount of resources it takes to sustain more conventional eating habits.

FFFC:  Is your family vegan?  Were they always?

JC:  I have two daughters who were raised vegan and as they become young adults, decided to continue their plant-based eating habits which makes me proud!

FFFC:  Who are some of your chef idols (Male or female we don’t discriminate)?

JC:  I really don’t have any specific chef idols, but I do enjoy perusing through Southeast Asian cookbooks!

FFFC:  What clean eating tips can you offer our readers?

JC:  Make sure your plate features all colors of the rainbow- if your meal is colorful, you’re on the right path to eating healthy.

FFFC:  Do you have any upcoming events in the next few weeks you want to share?

JC:  My upcoming projects are somewhat under wraps, so I’ll keep my lips zipped until the time is right.

FFFC:  What is your favorite food?

JC:  Anything Southeast Asian! So Indian, Thai, Malay, and Chinese are my favorite foods to eat! The flavor combinations of sweet, salty, spicy and sour are mind-blowing!

FFFC:  How can our readers learn more about you and your clean eating treats? (i.e. Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, Twitter, etc.)
