Forget The Gym, Stay Home

Brought to you by GreenPal

Who needs to go to the gym when you can just be home, right? After all, the gym is a place for extreme fitness individuals, not for the rest of us, right?  Should you just stay home? Yes!

Now, before you think we are talking about sitting on the couch and watching television, we should explain our thinking.  You should stay home and do home maintenance, because there are few things as productive and as healthy than working around the house.  When you go to the gym, you work out for two hours but beyond a few extra muscles, what did that two hours get you?

Wouldn’t it be better to work out while you are doing home maintenance at home? That way, you have the extra muscles and a completed job at home.  Did you know that building a fence, just spending 60 minutes doing that, can help you burn 340 calories per hour?  Okay, so maybe you aren’t into building a fence but has the spouse been telling you to clean out the gutters? If so, get to it because doing that for only an hour will burn 272 calories.

Maybe you already have a fence. In that case, have you thought about washing or painting it?  Do that for just one hour and you will burn 238 calories.  In the summer, you need to mow the lawn. You could pay some kid to do it, or you could and burn 400 calories in one hour alone of mowing the lawn. Even a small lawn will help you burn 108 calories in just 15 minutes.

Is it winter? Shovel some snow for an hour and you will burn 576 calories. In the fall, you can rake leaves for an hour and burn 384 calories.  There really are a multitude of things you can do around the house to burn calories and get in shape. Why waste money at the gym when you can rake the leaves for free and get a good workout?

I don’t know about roofing, that can lead to a permanent injury LOL. Yes, housework does burn plenty of calories especially raking leaves and shoveling snow. If you have heart disease or you are a man over 40 and haven’t had a check up, forgo shoveling snow.

My husband use to laugh at me because after hauling, busting it up, and stacking it I would go in and work out. He did the same thing after I got done pushing the mower over some of our 16 acres. I did burn alot of calories doing those things, but left it lack the toning that I personally wanted, who needs the gym? Not I great post, sharing on g+, and pinning to my fitness board.

Oh forgot to mention I also rack leaves on an acre, load them in the wheel barrow, and dump them on the burn pile. That’s it all you city dwellers need to move to the country.
